Energy tax credits are available for the installation of solar hot water systems and geothermal heat pump systems occurring from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2016. The credit is equal to 30 percent of the installed cost and there is no maximum cap on the credit.

A heat pump is both an air conditioner and a heater. It just depends on the time of year. When the heat pump is in the heating mode, it takes heat from the cool air outside and uses it to heat your home. When it's in the A/C mode it takes cool air from the outside warm air to cool the house.
